Bespoke Book Wedding Signet Ring
I have learned over the years that our imagination is limitless and there is a beautiful life story at the heart of each design we create.
Our customer bought his engagement ring from us last year. His idea was to incorporate the trinity knot from the engagement ring into his wedding ring. He also requested a signet ring with a book sitting at the top inside of the ring, with the words, "Veritas" etched across the book. This is one of the most interesting and unusual designs I have personally created. Our immediate thought was, "how are we going to build a book?" It turned out to be quite straightforward!
Throughout the design process, I sent our customer ideas, he was uncertain which shape of ring would suite him, the round shape seemed to look the best, however it was a challenge fitting the book into such a small space, testing different sizes was a process, it was important for the book to look 3 dimensional and to see the words.
The book looked bigger and more 3 additional in the square shape, however, it did not work as a design overall, it seemed to look better with the round shaped signet, we made the book slightly smaller and deeper. We also decided to oxidize the engraved words to appear darker, this made a huge difference.
The book did take some time to build, the important thing was for the book to appear open at the Veritas page. Our customer also requested a special type of script that looked like it was burned out of the page.
The main design challenge was fitting the book into the top of the ring and ensuring that he words were visible. This involved creating multiple samples and tweaking it until it was perfect. It is always a beautiful surprise when the design comes off the cast looking exactly like the original vision.
The side of the signet Ring was engraved out to inlay the trinity knot, also 3 dimensional and exactly the same as the knot on his partners engagement ring.
Final design
Aside from a re-size, we nailed it! Our customer was so happy with the design, he wears it with pride every day. We are so happy to be a small part of his life story and to design a ring that has so much significance.
Hallmarking
All our designs are hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office. This design was created in sterling silver, so was marked 925 inside, along with the castle logo, which is the Edinburgh Assay Offices hallmark and our sponsor mark. The year it was hallmarked is also stamped inside the ring.
